Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Flying Saucer!

Before we head off for a Christmas break, we’d like to take the opportunity to look back at everything Flying Saucer has achieved this year – and thank everyone who helped us get there!

Christmas Opening Times

We’ll be closing the office on Wednesday 20th December at 1pm and returning on Tuesday 2nd January. If you are a client and need to contact us urgently, however, you can always call us on 07766 542 811 and we’ll respond as soon as possible.

Peterborough One

It’s been a busy and creative year at Flying Saucer. We’ve gained several new clients, especially in the retail sector, including the ever-evolving retail park that is Peterborough One

We devised and managed several events for the Cambridgeshire shopping complex, including a Halloween Spooktacular. The Spooktacular saw a significant increase in footfall to the park, over 500 more cars on site and a 76% increase in sales for one particular retailer.

The Christmas Lights Switch On for the park, conceived and managed by Flying Saucer, also saw an increase in footfall and attracted plenty of positive response on social media. The event welcomed children’s favourites Sid and Scrat from Ice Age to the bespoke event stage to meet and greet youngsters, show-stopping performances from illuminated dancers and other live entertainment.

Donna Martin who attended the event said: “Easily the best Christmas lights switch on I’ve ever been to! It was great that the kids were involved alongside Sid and Scrat. Amazing! Thank you all.”

A Roaring Success

We hosted plenty of other events at our retail clients’ establishments this year. The most recent being at Garden Square Shopping Centre in Letchworth.

Hot on the heels of the successful Christmas Lights Switch on event for the venue, where Garden Square welcomed the eye-popping Spark! to the town, we devised and managed another head-turning show on Saturday 9th December.

Snow Lion event at Garden Square Shopping Centre

From the Forests of Eternal Snow padded the giant Snow Lion; a mythic emblem of the season, celebrating the light of human kindness in the depths of winter’s darkest days. Accompanied by the Red Queen and her servant, the Snow Lion offered protection to this powerful feminine archetype, herself a role model for young girls seeking an alternative to Mother Christmas.

The Red Queen

Combining animatronic puppetry, spectacular costumes and music, it proved to be an experience like no other! Children and their families filled Garden Square to witness the mystery and majesty of the largest lion to walk the earth, as it walked around the malls and posed for photos with onlookers.

Again, people took to social media after the event to enthuse about the Lion’s appearance at Garden Square. Heather Almond said: “It was a lovely magical touch to the town centre. Well done!”

Footfall significantly increased at the shopping centre during the event and promotion of it organically reached over 65,000 on the shopping centre’s social media pages.

In summary…

Getting to know our new clients has been exciting and challenging, and seeing a real difference to their marketing performance has been a definite highlight. We’ve increased footfall at events, strengthened social media following and redesigned marketing collateral, both on and off line. Making our clients happy is what keeps us going, and we’re thrilled to have done that so much this year!

2017 has been a challenging year, but with our dedicated and hardworking staff, together with our supportive and loyal customers, we have enjoyed every moment of it! We’re now looking forward to having a break, munching on some mince pies, knocking back some eggnog and watching The Snowman on repeat. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
